Psychiatric Treatment

At Pacific Psychiatric Intervention & Wellness Centers (PPIWC), we focus on interventional psychiatric treatment for depression, anxiety, insomnia, and other psychiatric conditions. We individualize each patients’ treatment plan based on their unique circumstances, and course of illness. PPIWC provides conservative psychiatric medication management, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, Theta Burst Stimulation, and intravenous (IV) and intramuscular (IM) ketamine therapy. Recently we have added an injectable nutrient therapy service, and we are a certified clinic for the FDA approved Spravato™ (esketamine). More information on Spravato™ (esketamine), what we know about it, don’t know about it and a savings program by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, visit our Spravato™ (esketamine) page. The success that we have with our patients is largely due to our integrated approach with all of the services and treatments that we offer at PPIWC.

Regarding our philosophy on psychiatric medication management, we feel that psychiatric treatment medications play a role in treating symptoms, but often, they are over-relied on. Sometimes they are very helpful for people as well. At PPIWC, we apply a conservative strategy with our management of psychiatric medications. We have significant experience in “de-prescribing” and detoxing from psychiatric medications. It is not uncommon for us to help people reduce medications, especially when we are able to take advantage of the other treatments that we offer at PPIWC.

To clarify, “de-prescribing” is a term that we use at PPIWC to describe the strategic way we go about reducing a patient’s psychiatric medication load when we feel that the medications are significantly contributing to the patient’s suffering. We de-prescribe everything from benzodiazepines (e.g., Xanax, Valium, Klonopin, etc.) to various combinations of “mood stabilizers” and anti-psychotics.

We avoid using certain classes of medications, especially benzodiazepines, given the high likelihood of dependence and tolerance developing. We typically use non-benzodiazepine alternatives for reducing anxiety.
